Life is Cruel to Basilia Belushi

Three sisters in their late 40's, meet after years in Ghent where Agatha, the oldest, lives. They reunite to celebrate the 80th birthday of their mother, Basilia, who is traveling to Belgium from Greece with the youngest daughter, Yolanda. Basilia has long-lost contact with the world around her and is incapable of taking care of herself and Yolanda dedicated her life to taking care of her. Last to arrive is Barbara, the second one, who lives in Berlin and has secretly published a book based on her family secrets and traumas. 

The weird atmosphere among the sisters becomes more awkward once Yolanda announces that she wants to move away with her girlfriend and she won’t be able to take care of their mother any longer. The flamboyant birthday party that Agatha organised is finally her chance to leave Basilia in Ghent and let her other sisters deal with her. This leads to epic fights that bring to surface every memory and unsaid bitterness of the past. And then, all of the sudden, Basilia disappears...
